Notes

The nose was inviting and homely, like a warm Victorian kitchen – rabbit pie, apple and rhubarb crumble and fresh-baked bread in a basket; plus lavender and jasmine trailing from a vase. The neat palate was hot and tannic, but with pleasant wood and sweet spicy flavours (brandy snaps, ginger biscuits, stewed rhubarb with ginger, treacle toffee, cherry Tunes). The reduced nose continued to give comfort – butterscotch, caramel, Turkish Delight and loaf sugar wrapped in hessian. The palate now combined chocolate caramel sweetness with juicy pineapple, poached pear, rhubarb and mango followed by gentle oak and spice after-tingles – altogether rounded and well-integrated.
