Notes

A shape-shifting chimera – the nose evoked an old-fashioned confectioner’s; butterscotch, Turkish delight, vanilla, orange fondants, lemon drizzle cake and Demerara – also hints of flower meadows, white pepper, lino cuts and a carpenter’s workshop. The palate had sweetness (cinder toffee, sherbet straws, candy peanuts, cola cubes, Old English spangles) complicated by warm pepper tingles, liquorice, green banana and honeysuckle. Adding water brought citrus to the nose, then toffee apples, marzipan, almond slice and rosewater – the lino cuts became Barbour jackets. On the palate; jam pop tarts, nougat, cinnamon swirls, Oreos and chocolate ice-cream – some Drambuie notes and woody spice to finish.
